So, in case you are out of the loop. EtsyMudTeam is having a creature/critter challenge. Here’s a little sneak peak at the “tail end” of mine. Keep your fingers crossed it makes it through bisque and I don’t try and get too creative with the glazing, cause he’s looking pretty cute as is.

My Own Sock Creature
My last trip to Seattle, I bough a book called Stupid Sock Creatures. Absolutely love it and I couldn’t wait to get home and make them with the kids. I read the Author’s bio and he went to East Carolina’s School of Art, just like your’s truly. Then just before writing this post, I check out John Murphy’s website and guess what - the dude lives in my town! Asheville! Not only that he has a studio in the River District where I used have a studio. Amazing… and to think I bought his book way out on the West Coast. Anyways, hear’s my sock creature I made from his book. Totally Dig it!

DIY Make it yourself Bead Rack
No, can’t say I’ll be going into the bead business soon, but I do occasionally want some to work into various projects, primarily textiles, and being the “custom” guy I am, I wanted to make my own. That being said, I figured it didn’t hurt to list a few in my Etsy shop.
So here’s the bead rack I made. I like it because I can toss a few beads in with other high fire wares and not have to do a half empty load in my big ole kiln. It’s based on a description GinPins gave in the mud team thread a few months ago. The two end pieces are high fire porcelain with holes for the rod. The rod is a “kanthal” bead rod and the wires are shaped into “s”s from thinner wire. It held up fine in a cone 6 soda firing. My only problem was the rod “flaked” over a plate I had put under it to save space - won’t do that again! I got my rods at Highwater, but you also get them online here.
